Utility Scale
Utility Scale Solar solutions
Utility-scale solar projects in Nevada have been providing clean, consistent and reliable energy for decades.
We’ve designed and constructed utility-scale solar projects that:
- Accommodate and co-exist with protected plants and animals.
- Provide reliable energy off the grid.
- Are on tribal lands.
- Offer renewable energy options to utility company customers.
- Power water treatment facilities.
CASE STUDY 1
Valley Electric Association Community Solar
- AP Systems 2016 Project of the Year
- Solar Builder Magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award
Bombard Renewable Energy and project owner Valley Electric Association worked closely with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the endangered Mojave Desert Tortoises discovered at the project site.
Unique design and construction elements were used to reduce the impact on the tortoises and vegetation.
- We did not grade or level the project site as we normally would before construction. This helped preserve vegetation the tortoises eat and the tortoises’ habitat.
- We used a versatile racking system that allowed the panels to be installed on uneven terrain.
- The ground-mounted solar panels were installed at a height of 48 inches to allow room for vegetation and tortoises. Typically, panels are installed at a height of 18 to 24 inches.
- One-foot-wide tortoise access points were created along the fence line to allow them to pass through the site.
- An expansive, temporary habitat was created to house the tortoises during construction. They were returned to the site after construction was complete.
